SECAUCUS, N.J. - Several people have collapsed in an overcrowded New Jersey train station while waiting in long lines to get to the Super Bowl. Emergency medical workers pushed their way through the overheated crowd to treat the people at Secaucus Junction on Sunday afternoon. Long lines have come to a standstill in front of airport-style security machines that apparently cannot handle the crowd volume. People were squeezed together in an enclosed stairwell. As more trains arrived, police tried to thin the sweating, jostling crowd by spreading people across the platform. Initial fan calls of "Seahawks" and "Broncos" gave way to angry shouts of "New Jersey, your Super Bowl sucks!" Chicago Bulls Jerseys . BOSTON - Hassan Whiteside was hardly shocked when Miami coach Erik Spoelstra designed a play for him late in the third quarter of a tight game.He was surprised when Spoelstra kept doing it, though.Whiteside scored half of his 20 points during a dominant stretch spanning the third and fourth quarters and Miami Heat held off the Boston Celtics 83-73 on Sunday to snap a two-game slide. He drew up a play and I scored on it, he just kept drawing them up, said Whiteside, who went 10-for-17 from the field. I really think he started believing I can make plays down there.Whiteside also had nine rebounds and blocked three shots, while Chris Bosh added 18 points and Tyler Johnson had 13, helping overcome the absences of Dwyane Wade and Luol Deng.Wade missed his second game in a row with a strained right hamstring, while Deng sat out his third straight with a strained calf. Wade, who injured himself in Tuesdays loss to Milwaukee, is averaging 21.4 points and 5.4 assists per game.Whiteside is more than making up for their absence, though, and Spoelstra isnt his only supporter. The 25-year-old has most of Miami in a frenzy following a wild week that included a triple-double and franchise-record 12 blocks last Sunday, and 24 rebounds on Friday. Its quite the story for the former castoff who signed with the Heat in November after playing in both Lebanon and China last year.He continues to surprise me, Bosh said. Hes a talented young fellow. We want to continue to push him and encourage him to play and do well.Avery Bradley and Tyler Zeller led the Celtics with 17 points apiece, and Brandon Bass had 15. It was Bostons third straight loss and fourth in its last five.Weve got to do a better job of finding our pulse at the defensive end regardless of whether the ball is going in the basket or not, Boston coach Brad Stevens said. When you miss the number of shots that we missed, I thought we let that affect how much we talked defensively. I could hear the silence and thats a bad thing. Both teams were coming off their worst shooting performances of the season. Miami was held to a season-low 33.0 per cent in a loss to Dallas, while Boston shot 35.6 per cent in a setback to Houston.Neither fared much better Sunday, with Boston shooting 37 per cent and Miami 41.6, but Whitesides 10-for-17 performance fueled the Heats third win in their last seven games. The suddenly surging 7-foot sensation was relatively quiet for the first two-and-a-half quarters before he began resembling the centre who came in averaging 15.3 points and 17.7 rebounds over his previous three games, including a triple-double line of 14 points, 13 rebounds and a franchise-record 12 blocks last Sunday. After Boston erased a 12-point halftime deficit, tying it at 55 with less than three minutes to play in the third, Whiteside had his way with the young Celtics. He scored Miamis final four points of the third and opened the fourth by scoring six straight points, including a pair of long jumpers that restored the Heats eight-point cushion.I hadnt seen him do that yet, Bosh said. I dont think hes seen him do that yet. It was a nice move.Spoelstra didnt seem to mind his big mans decision to shoot from the perimeter. If hes wide open and theyre disrespecting him and it comes within the flow of what we do, Im fine with that, he said.TIP-INSHeat: First-round pick Shabazz Napier, a Roxbury, Mass. native and four-year player at the University of Connecticut, scored five points in his return to Boston. . The Heat won the teams only other meeting this season, 100-84 in Miami on Dec. 21, 2014. . G Mario Chalmers played in his 486th game for the Heat, tying him with Keith Askins for fourth place on the teams all-time list.Celtics: F Tayshaun Prince, who scored 13 points in 21 minutes on Friday, didnt play against Miami. Prince was acquired from Memphis in mid-January. . The Celtics plan on departing for Tuesdays game in New York at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, weather permitting, to allow the team to watch the Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots.INJURY UPDATESpoelstra said that Deng participated in pre-game workouts and is making progress, yet has not been medically cleared to return. He still feels just a little bit of something, Spoelstra said. You look around the league right now with strains, it could turn a lot worse if you dont take care of it fully. Youve got to be 100 per cent ready.TRAFFIC JAMBoston F Jared Sullinger, the only Celtics player to have started every game this season, got caught in traffic and arrived five minutes late to the teams walkthrough Sunday. He was replaced by Zeller in the starting lineup, but Stevens said it wasnt a big deal.POPPELGANGER?Stevens marveled at New England Patriots coach Bill Belichicks accomplishments, comparing him to San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich, who has led the Spurs to five NBA titles. I think hes one of the guys that people across sports look up to, Stevens said of Belichick. CONCORD, N.C. -- Travis Kvapil said he was embarrassed by his arrest on charges of misdemeanour assault and false imprisonment against his wife. Kvapil, who will race Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway, apologized to BK Racing, NASCAR, fans and "anyone else that was impacted by Tuesday night." "Obviously, there was a domestic situation Tuesday night with my wife. Regret that that happened," he said after qualifying 41st Thursday night. "Because it is a family, personal matter, we ask for respect and privacy in this situation and we try to work it out together as a family. Im obviously embarrassed about the situation. I dont like the negative effects that it has brought on." NASCAR said it is close communication with BK Racing and gathering information on the Tuesday night incident between Kvapil and his wife, Jennifer. The 2003 Truck Series champion was released from police custody on $2,000 bond Wednesday morning. "NASCAR does not condone the actions with which Travis Kvapil has been charged and we are disappointed to learn of this incident," NASCAR said in a statement. "NASCAR takes this matter very seriously and will continue to monitor the situation as it moves forward." According to court records reviewed by The Sporting News, Kvapil allegedly pulled his wife into a bedroom by her hair and struck her in the head. He is not permitted to return home and can only contact his wife by phone or email on matters concerning their children. He faces a Nov. 19 court date. Kvapil, who drives the No. 93 Toyota for BK Racing in the Sprint Cup Series, was in the car at Charlotte. He is 31st in the standings. "BK Racing understands the severity of the situation and we dont condone the actions that Travis has been accused of," team co-owner Ron Devine said. "We feel its important to let the system take its course. For that reason, we have elected to support Travis and his family and keep Travis in the car for this weekends race. Further comment will be available as additional information becomes available." Kvapil has raced at NASCARs national level since 2001. Although hes winless in 240 career Cup starts, he has won nine Truck Series races. "Its been tough. I guess you really find out your true friends, your supporters," Kvapil said. "Its been quite an eye-opening experience. Been through some things I definitely dont ever want to go through again. We are going to let it take its course, let it work itself out, one day at a time." Connor McDavid Jersey . Ryu (8-3) allowed a run and three hits in six innings and struck out six in his 13th start. With the NHL regular season right around the corner, TSN.ca profiles each team leading up to puck drop. Next up is the Ottawa Senators - who look to return to the post-season after parting ways with their captain for the second straight summer. Catch up on their off-season moves and the issues they face this season, as well as their analytical breakdown by TSNs Scott Cullen. Division: Atlantic GM: Bryan Murray Head Coach: Paul MacLean 2013-14: 37-31-14 (5th in Atlantic) Playoffs: Did not qualify Goals For: 229 (5th) Goals Against: 258 (27th) PP: 18.4% (14th) PK: 80.9% (22nd) That Was Then: October was unkind to the Senators, who opened the season on a six-game road trip that provided just one regulation win. Matters were not much better at home as the Sens dropped five straight contests at Canadian Tire Centre after dropping New Jersey in their home opener midway through the month. Craig Andersons head injury opened the door for Robin Lehner in November, with the young Swedish netminder posting a 3-0-2 record in his teammates absence. His success resulted in a time-share that lasted until the early part of the new year. The team hovered around .500 mark for much of the season, keeping them from the bottom of the Atlantic, but also keeping them from challenging division rivals Boston, Montreal, Tampa and Detroit. The Sens stormed back from an 0-2 deficit to win the Heritage Classic in front of 54,000-plus at GM Place in Vancouver and despite being on the outside of the playoff bubble, they went out and added help at the trade deadline acquiring winger Ales Hemsky from Edmonton for a pair of draft picks. The immediate result was both positive and negative. The upside was that Hemsky and Jason Spezza clicked offensively and the Czech winger put up 17 points in 20 games with the Sens. The downside was that the team dropped eight of nine on the heels of the Heritage Classic, officially killing their playoff dreams. The free-falling Leafs, Canucks and Jets helped bolster the Senators final finish of 21st in the overall standings, but it was difficult to find a lot of positives having spent so long on the outside looking in. Erik Karlsson posted another outstanding season in his first year back from 2013s Achilles injury, posting a team-leading 74 points in a full 82 games. Scott Cullens Analytics Senators 2013-14 stats by Quarter Games GPG GAA SH% SV% SAF% PTS% 1-20 2.90 2.80 8.9% .929 46.9% .500 21-41 2.67 3.33 5.7% .916 52.6% .463 42-62 2.81 3.24 8.0% .916 49.8% .619 63-82 2.80 3.10 7.0% .924 51.5% .575 NHL AVG 2.67 2.67 7.8% .922 50.0% .562 Key: GPG= goals per game, GAA= goals-against per game, SH%= even-strength shooting percentage, SV%= even-strength save percentage, SAF%= score-adjusted Fenwick percentage (differential of shot attempts faced vs. shot attempts, excluding blocked shots, adjusted for game score), PTS%= percentage of available points. Analysis: Games 1-20: Even with really strong percentages, couldnt gain ground because of poor possesion results, with Spezza and Michalek off to particularly poor starts. Games 21-41: Such is the nature of percentages -- they tend to fluctuate -- and Sens were suddenly below average in both in the second quarter. Games 42-62: Goaltending still an issue, but serviceable possession and favourable shooting improved the Senators record. Games 63-82: Addition of Hemsky helped possession, but percentages going in opposite directions offset each other. Key 2014 Additions: F Alex Chiasson, D Aaron Johnson, C David Legwand Key 2014 Subtractions: F Stephane Da Costa, F Ales Hemsky, C Jason Spezza This Is Now: After a few months of trade speculation, Spezza was finally shipped out of the nations capital to the Dallas Stars in a deal that brought in forward Alex Chiasson. To top it off, the Stars then went out and signed Hemsky as a free agent - taking two of Ottawas top six forwards from last season. Spezza lasted just one season as team captain and the team once again starts the search at training camp. Karlsson is definitely a candidate, as well as veteran Chris Phillips as he closes out his career with the only team hes ever played for. The 36-year-old starts the year 35 games shy of Alfredssons all-time club record of games played. The team did well to get some help up front in landing centre David Legwand. Hes not a replacement for the numbers Spezza put up, but he provides leadership and is a two-way centre who should definitely flourish under MacLean. For the remainder of the roster, its all a question of progression. If Kyle Turris can put up first-line numbers, then the Spezza void may not be that large, especially if the team continues to get elite production out of Karlsson. Both Anderson and Lehner have the talent to backstop the team to numbers above expectation, but for that to happen the team needs to first get its leadership - and subsequently, its young core - settled. TSN Ottawa reporter Brent Wallaces Five Key Storylines heading into training camp: 1. Life after Spezza How will the Sens fill the offensive void left by their No. 1 centres departure and can Kyle Turris be a top line centre? Mika Zibanejad, David Legwand and Zack Smith are behind him and it will be difficult to match that production they once had with Spezza down the middle. 2. Who will take charge? Who will be selected as the next leader after the captain has left town for the second straight year? Defenceman Chris Phillips and forwards Clarke MacArthur and Chris Neil are candidates, but Karlsson is the present and future and could be looked upon to lead this retooling club. 3. Which Paul MacLean will be behind the bench? Bryan Murray issued a warning to his head coach in the off-season to return to the way he coached in 2012 season. Two years ago, he was more of a players coach and it wasnt the same case last season. 4. Battle In Goal Both Lehner and Anderson signed new deals in the off-season - who will emerge as the No. 1? Lehner has youth and potential on his side, but Anderson recently signed a contract extension that keeps him in the nations capital for a few more years. 5. Will a long off-season be enough time to help Erik Karlsson return to his Norris-winning ways? Karlsson said last year he still hadnt recovered from the Achilles injury. But he still put up 74 points. It will be interesting to see how hell fare this year at 100 per cent. Fantasy - Cullens Player to Watch Mika Zibanejad A 21-year-old centre who was the sixth overall pick in 2011, Zibanejad has been a really good two-way player through his first 120 NHL games, with excellent possession stats, despite finishing with a minus-15 rating last season. With Jason Spezza and Ales Hemsky leaving, there are opportunities in Ottawa for young forwards to play a more significant role, and none are better prepared than Zibanejad, who has averaged under 14 minutes per game to this point in his career. He will theoretically have to compete with veteran centre David Legwand for quality ice time, but if Zibanejad plays 17-18 minutes per game and stays healthy, a 50-point season is possible. Robert Griffin III could only watch from the Washington Redskins sideline.Luck threw for 370 yards, a career-best five touchdowns and broke another one of Peyton Mannings franchise records as he led the Colts past the Redskins 49-27.For Luck, it was a milestone day.He finished 19 of 27, joined Manning and Dan Marino as the only NFL players to top 4,000 yards in two of their first three NFL seasons and broke Mannings franchise mark for 300-yard games in one season. He now has 10 this year with four games left.Luck also became the fifth NFL player since 1970 to win 30 or more regular season games in his first three seasons, leading Indy (8-4) to its eighth win in 10 games. And he did all that just days after Griffin, who was selected No. 2 behind Luck in the 2012 draft, was benched.Griffins replacement, Colt McCoy, struggled early but finished strong. He was 31 of 47 for a career-best 392 yards and three TDs, also a career high. It was McCoys first 300-yard game since October 2011, but wasnt quite enough to get Washington turned around. The Redskins have lost four straight.Throughout the game, Griffin played the loyal teammate, studying plays on his tablet, cheering on teammates, bemoaning the penalties and miscues and sometimes moved so close to the field he was instructed to movee back.ddddddddddddBut Griffin never made it in, and was instead relegated to watching Lucks show-stopping plays. The Colt quarterback threw TD passes of 30, 3, 48, 73 and 79 yards, and Daniel Boom Herron scored on a 49-yard run in the second quarter. DQwell Jackson scored the Colts other touchdown on a 35-yard fumble return as Indy produced its highest points total since November 2004.McCoy and Luck turned a 21-10 into a shootout in the third quarter. The Redskins got it started when McCoy scrambled away from two tacklers and hooked up with Logan Paulsen on a 16-yard TD pass.Three plays later, Luck found a wide-open Donte Moncrief down the seam for a 48-yard TD that made it 28-17. McCoys fourth-down fumble on the ensuing series was scooped up by Jackson, who sprinted to the end zone to make it 35-17.And after DeSean Jackson caught a 42-yard TD pass from McCoy, Luck answered with a 73-yard touchdown pass to Coby Fleener to make it 42-24 with 4:45 left in the third.Luck sealed it with a 79-yard scoring play to Moncrief early in the fourth.Moncrief had three catches for 134 yards, while Fleener finished with four catches for 127 yards and two scores.Jordan Reed had nine catches for 123 yards, and Jackson finished with five catches for 84 yards before leaving late with a bruised right leg.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL Cheap Soccer Jerseys Authentic Wholesale Hockey Jerseys Nike NFL Jerseys China Cheap Nike MLB Jerseys China Wholesale Baseball Jerseys China Wholesale College Jerseys Cheap Jerseys From China Wholesale Jerseys Near Me Cheap Jerseys Online Cheap NFL Jerseys Authentic Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Authentic Cheap Soccer Jerseys China Cheap NCAA Jerseys Authentic Cheap Nike NBA Jerseys Cheap NHL Jerseys Authentic MLB Jerseys China Cheap Jerseys From China Cheap NFL Throwback Jerseys Cheap Nike NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

TORONTO -- Players on the Edmonton Eskimos and Calgary Stampeders will hold a strike vote Saturday. Veterans on teams outside Alberta have already voted and are in a legal strike position but the Eskimos and Stampeders were unable to vote earlier due to provincial labour laws. If they vote in favour of a strike, the earliest they could do so is Wednesday night in accordance with the legislation. The CFL and its players have been without a collective agreement since May 29. The CFL exhibition season is scheduled to begin Monday night with the Toronto Argonauts visiting the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, but with players on both teams in a legal strike position, that game could be threatened. CFL Players Association president Scott Flory didnt return a telephone message Friday while a league spokesman said commissioner Mark Cohon wasnt available for comment. The Eskimos and Stampeders will include their rookies in the vote because Alberta law requires all players to participate. Traditionally, first-year players dont vote because theyre not recognized as certified union members, but the players association is allowing them to do so to counter any potential legal challenge from the league. Some other teams in the league will also hold second votes Saturday to include their rookies. The two sides have been negotiating on a new collective bargaining agreement since February but reached an impasse on Monday when the league rejected the players latest offer. The league and union last met face to face May 29. Despite turning down the players offer Monday, the CFL extended the ratification bonus deadline to midnight ET on Friday. If the players accepted the leagues final offer in that timeframe, veterans would receive a $5,000 bonus while rookies would get $1,500. However, a league spokesman said the bonus clause would be taken off the table after the deadline. There has only been one strike since the CFLPA was formed in 1965. Three weeks of training camp were lost in 1974 before a new agreement was reached. No regular-season games were affected. The 2014 regular season is scheduled to kick off June 26. The two sides dont appear to be far apart on financial issues. The CFLPA has requested a $5.2-million salary cap and $4.8-million minimum. The CFL has countered with a $5-million cap. The two sides have agreed on boosting the minimum salary $5,000 to $50,000. After demanding specific revenue-sharing percentages, the CFLPA offer called for a fixed cap for at least two years. After the second, if league revenues increased by more than $18 million -- excluding the Grey Cup -- the two sides would renegotiate the cap or the entire agreement. The CFL offer called for the cap to be renegotiated if its revenues increased by $27 million or more in the third year. Non-monetary issues, such as player safety, practice roster size, eliminating the option year on CFL contracts and practice times, are also sticking points. Justin March-Lillard Jersey . The selection was packaged in the teams deal for Thomas Vanek on October 27, 2013. Tyron Smith Jersey . Im very excited about the playoffs, particularly in the Western Conference with amazing match-ups, as well as the wonderful local story in the Toronto Raptors. It should be a blast. Here are my predictions, but based upon my lousy prognostications during the NCAA Tournament, you might be better off going the other way on some of mine - particularly with the Raptors, who I hope and pray are able to win an incredibly difficult match-up.LeBron James reportedly decided to opt out of his contract with the Miami Heat on Tuesday. Heres a few quick thoughts of what this Decision means to me. 1. CONTROL: Hes the best player by far on the planet so its his contractual right to exercise this clause and I agree with him. Old-timers and traditionalists might not like it but its the reality of pro sports in the 21st century. Great actors/actresses set the tone and select what movies/plays they want to perform in and who they want to work with and for and LeBron is at that level in the "sports/entertainment industry" that former NBA commissioner David Stern created with the emphasis on stars over teams. This is a creation of that. Right, wrong or indifferent - it is what it is. Hes negotiated and earned the right to reconsider and re-explore what hed like to do with his career. The man is serious about his game and is a student of the game and wants/needs some space here to evaluate. 2. MIAMI HEAT: We all saw them with our own eyes in the NBA Finals vs. the Spurs. The reality is that the current team as constructed needs major improvements or they wont challenge against the superior Western Conference teams for an NBA title. In addition, if an Eastern team like the Chicago Bulls gets back a healthy Derrick Rose and is able to acquire Kevin Love and/or Carmelo Anthony who is to say that theyre even the No. 1 contender in the East anymore? Do you honestly believe that Dwyane Wade is going to give you 70-75+ regular season games and four playoff rounds at a high level at $20 million per year? Is Chris Bosh still committed to playing in all areas of the game rather than just becoming a jump shooter? If Im LeBron I have my doubts. A few smart tweaks with Wade and Bosh sacrificing some money opens up the possibility of it all working again...yet its far from a sure thing. 3. CLEVELAND CAVALIERS: Owner Dan Gilbert blasted LeBron on the way out the door after "The Decision". Does LeBBron forgive and forget? Does new GM David Griffin have the wherewithal/pedigree to pull off such a heist? He and Kyrie Irving together - not bad.dddddddddddd. They have the No. 1 Pick and some talented young guys they can package to move to Minnesota for Kevin Love. How does Irving, Love and LeBron sound to you? It would be a better Big Three at this point that the Miami version even though both Love and Irving have put up "numbers", yet still havent shown me yet that theyre truly special. What a return this would be. 4. OTHER SUITORS (Chicago, Houston, LA Lakers): Youll hear about all three and more in the hunt for the King. Needless to say, you put him on the Bulls or Rockets and theyre in the hunt for a title. The Lakers? Kobe and LeBron would be an interesting pairing but what does the rest of the roster look like? How long does Kobe hold up? Lots more questions than answers in LA. The rumour mill will surely be filled with gossip from all three of these spots. 5. TORONTO RAPTORS: Not saying this because its wishful thinking on my part. Seriously, why not? They desperately need a starting small forward. You put him with a re-signed Kyle Lowry, Demar DeRozan, a re-signed Patrick Patterson and Jonas Valanciunas with a re-signed Greivis Vasquez, Terrence Ross and Amir Johnson and Ill take my chances with anyone in the East. On a league-wide scale Im not scared by anyone with that crew on my side. You want hoops to grow in Toronto and across the country - go for it. Nothing to lose. Realistic? Maybe not but honestly thats not a bad eight-man core whatsoever. Obviously, the salary cap/luxury tax always comes into play but for a player of this magnitude you explore every possibility. It would actually be a very good team if it ever happened. Why not Toronto? Its about time we stick our chests out and go for it. I like the style of GM Masai Ujiri and CEO Tim Leiweke and this fits them if its a reasonable pursuit. TORONTO -- The family of a Canadian skicross racer killed two years ago at a World Cup event feels vindicated now that sport authorities no longer blame him for the tragedy and instead have made safety improvements to course design, their lawyer said Monday. Lawyer Tim Danson said the family of Nik Zoricic feels his legacy has become something positive and to be celebrated. "We were not prepared to accept that Nik was responsible for his own death," Danson told The Canadian Press. "We just wanted the truth to be acknowledged." In the immediate aftermath of his fatal crash at an event in Grindelwald, Switzerland, on March 10, 2012, ski officials angered the family and others in the skiing community by suggesting Zoricic, 29, was to blame for his death. The family responded by arguing the death was "entirely avoidable" and blasted the course finish line for being a "death trap." In a letter to his parents this month, the International Ski Federation (FIS) called Zoricic a "talented, experienced, and skilled" World Cup skier who did not take unnecessary risks. "It would therefore not be right to describe his accident as a freak accident or pilot error, the federations president and secretary general wrote. The letter further states that the federation has updated its safety guidelines and beefed up the staff and experts who help organizers construct a course and its safety measures. In skicross, several racers hurtle down a mountain at the same time, making jumps and taking curves on the way. Zoricic, who grew up in Toronto, had raced on the World Cup circuit for more than three years and was competing in his 36th event in Grindelwald when he was killed at the finish line of a tight three-way race. Video showed he was going as fast as 90 km/h when he veered to the right after the final jump, landing about a metre to the right of the official course line in "crud" rather than on a groomed shoulder. He snagged safety netting and tumbled into hard-packed snow, smashing his head. Among more stringent guidelines now in place is one calling for a much greater distance between the finish-line post and fencing. Hard objects, such as large mounds of packed snow, will no longer be allowed near the finish. "The fact that were making these significant changes is that there really are lessons learned from his death that will hopefully mean this kind of tragedy will never happen again," Danson said. The International Ski Federation also said it would commit $250,000 over five years to the Nik Zoricic Foundation, which aims to improve skicross safety. Neither Zoricics father Bebe, himself a veteran ski coach, nor his mother Silvia were immediately available to comment. Danson said it was a "difficult time" for them given the second anniversary of their sons death, but said they were "delighted" their son had been vindicated. At the Sochi Olympics last month, Canadian skicross racers wore denim-style ski pants as a tribute to their late teammate, who was known for wearing jeans on the mountain. Zoricic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and moved with his father to Canada at age 5. He raced on the World Cup circuit for more than three years, placing fifth in the 2010-11 World Cup standings and eighth in the seasons world championship at Deer Valley, Utah. Particularly when speaking in the stadium of Tuesdays opponent: Manchester City. "Maybe they dont fear us as before," Pique said on Monday, "because in the last two years we didnt win the Champions League." Uncertainty is seeping into the squad that was previously lauded as the greatest-ever, having won the Champions League three times since 2006. And it is showing as the round of 16 begins. Such pessimism, though, seems at odds with Barcas current outlook. The team is already through to the domestic cup final and top of the Spanish standings, albeit only on goal difference in a three-way tussle with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, while Lionel Messi has 10 goals in 10 games since returning from a two-month injury layoff. "We are a team with a lot of players who won the World Cup (with Spain), the Champions League, leagues," said Pique, a former defender at Citys rival, Manchester United. "We can still be the best, but we have to show the world we can do it. Tomorrow is a great chance." It is also a chance to shift the attention away from Barcas most damaging crisis in years. Club president Sandro Rosell abruptly quit last month as he fights a lawsuit alleging he misappropriated funds by hiding the real cost of the signing of Brazil striker Neymar with false contracts..dddddddddddd The saga has taken some of the sheen of footballing perfection off a Catalan football institution that is owned by its members and prides itself as being "more than a club." "We know within the club maybe in the last six months there were some things that we could not control (as) the players," Pique said. "All we can do is tomorrow on the pitch show the world we can still be the best." Their opponents, seen by some pundits as a "Mini-Barcelona," are on a turbo-charged mission -- funded by Abu Dhabi -- to become a global force. Not only is Citys board room populated by former Camp Nou executives, but the team attempts to play with similar stylish, short-passing moves. "City is one of the greatest teams in the world right now," coach Gerardo Martino said through a translator. "They are very similar to us, maybe they are a bit more direct but they have good possession ... if we dont have the ball its just pointless to turn up." Perhaps, thats not what the visiting fans want to hear. Losing over two legs would be hard for Martino to take, given the four-time European champions are taking on a team in its first knockout phase, and is third in the Premier League. "For the last six seasons, Barcelona has made it to the semifinals and the fans are used to that," Martino said. "It would be difficult to understand that we didnt go through." DALLAS -- The Los Angeles Clippers have not tired of inflicting fourth-quarter pain on the Dallas Mavericks. The Clippers rallied from a 10-point deficit in the final period to beat the Mavericks 109-103 on Thursday night. Los Angeles has won all three meetings thus far, with second-half rallies in each game. Each meeting has also featured plenty of emotion. On Thursday, the teams combined for six technical fouls charged to players on the floor, three on each team. "We need to start playing like that more often, to tell you the truth," Chris Paul said after leading Los Angeles with 31 points, a night after going 0 for 12 in a two-point loss in New Orleans. "We knew it was going to be a playoff-type game. Theyre not just playing for their playoff lives; were trying to gear up for the playoffs, too." The Clippers got double-doubles from Blake Griffin (18 points, 13 rebounds) and DeAndre Jordan (16 points, 15 rebounds). Los Angeles maintained its one-game lead over Houston for third place in the Western Conference. Vince Carter scored 23 points off the bench for the Mavericks, going 4 for 5 on 3-pointers. Dirk Nowitzki had 21 points but only two in the fourth quarter. "Its tough. Its very frustrating," Carter said. "But we fought like hell to give ourselves a chance to win, and thats all you can do." Samuel Dalembert was questionable going into the game for Dallas because of a stiff back. He started, played 22 minutes and led the Mavericks with 11 rebounds -- all in the first half. The loss dropped Dallas a half-game behind Phoenix and into ninth place in the tight race for the final playoff berths in the West. The score was tied at 81 going into the final period before the Mavericks ran off the first 10 points. Los Angeles chipped away and tied it at 101 on a drive by Griffin. Dallas then committed a backcourt violation when a pass from Nowitzki back to Jose Calderon near midcourt went astray. Griffin followed with a spinning runner to give the Clippers the lead for good at 103-101. Griffin was pleased with the defence that he played on Nowitzki, who was 7 for 15 from the floor. "For the past how many years, everything Ive heard is the things I couldnt do," he said. "One of the many things I cant do is play defence. "I take pride in the things I cant do. I just use that as motivation." The Clippers victory Thursday was their least dramatic in the series so far. They outscored the Mavericks 16-2 down the stretch to win by seven points in the first meeting on Jan. 5. Twelve days later, they rallied from 17 points down to win by two. A shoving match broke out early in the third quarter after the Mavericks brought the ball into the forecourt. Paul pushed Dallas Shawn Marion, who knocked into the Clippers Matt Barnes while falling over the end line. Barnes and Marion then had words, and Barnes shoved Marion. Paul, Marion and Barnes were all assessed technical fouls. "I just think its been a heated battle," Barnes said. "They had us down in the fourth three times, and theyre playing for the playoffs." Clippers coach Doc Rivers noted his team responded after Wednesday nights last-minute loss to the depleted Pelicans. "You could see our guys were fresh," Rivers said. "In a joking way, we should have been fresh because we didnt use a lot (Wednesday) night." The Mavericks are 3-3 on a franchise-record, eight-game homestand, having opened the stretch in seventh place with a 1 1/2-game cushion on ninth-place Phoenix. "Its basically the next game becomes the most important game of the year," Dallas coach Rick Carlisle said. "Thats just how it is going to be, every one down the stretch." The Mavericks will then close the season with five road games among their final seven. That includes one more game against the Clippers, at Staples Center on April 3. "We have one more chance," Calderon said. "Hopefully, next week maybe we can beat these guys." NOTES: The Clippers J.J. Redick, out since early February with a back injury, said he hopes to return before the end of the season. . DENVER -- Marcell Ozuna hit a grand slam for his third homer in as many games, Giancarlo Stanton had three hits and three RBIs, and the Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 13-5 on Friday night. Henderson Alvarez (10-5) withstood a pair of homers over six innings to win his fourth consecutive decision. He was making his second start since successfully returning last week from a stint on the disabled list because of a right shoulder inflammation. Alvarez struck out five, walked none and gave up 10 hits, including two-run homers by Justin Morneau and Corey Dickerson but fought back to keep the Rockies lineup largely in check. The Marlins helped Alvarez get through the rough spots by staking him to a 4-0 lead. After Morneau connected for his 14th homer of the season, the Marlins capitalized on some wayward pitching by the Rockies, who overall issued nine walks and hit a batter with a pitch. Franklin Morales (5-7) gave up a single to Christian Yelich and double to Jeff Baker to start the fifth before walking Stanton intentionally to load the bases. McGehee then drove in a run by drawing a walk off Morales, who was relieved by Brooks Brown. After getting a forceout at the plate, Brown walked Jarrod Saltalamacchia to force in another run and Miami pulled in front 6-2. Dickerson cut the deficit to 6-4 in the fifth, following Nolan Arenados two-out single with his 18th home run. Miami added another run in the seventh on an RBI double by Donovan Solano. The Dallas-based Fifth Court of Appeals temporarily halted the case at Armstrongs request in March, but ruled on Thursday it doesnt have jurisdiction at this stage of an arbitration matter. A spokesman for SCA Promotions said the ruling will allow the arbitration to proceed. The ruling was a defeat for Armstrong but not a final one. State law will allow him to appeal any final judgment if the panel rules against him. SCA Promotions wants to reopen a 2006 settlement it paid to Armstrong, and sued the cyclist after his 2013 admission to doping during his career to win the Tour de France. The arbitration panel that first approved the settlement agreed to reconsider the case, prompting Armstrong to ask the state courts to intervene. Armstrong attorney Tim Herman did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Thursdays ruling. SCA and Armstrong have been battling since 2005, when the company first tried to withhold the bonus money and sought to prove he doped. Despite producing some of the most serious doping allegations at the time, SCA ultimately agreed too pay Armstrong.dddddddddddd Armstrongs attorneys insist state law doesnt allow SCA to reopen the original settlement, which included a clause that said "no party may challenge, appeal or attempt to set aside" the payment and that it was "fully and forever binding." But given Armstrongs doping admission and SCAs claims that it reached the settlement only because of fraudulent efforts by Armstrong, the arbitration panel agreed to consider the companys case for repayment. The appeals court said it cant step in until there is a final judgment from the arbitration panel. "As a general matter, an arbitration must be complete before appellate review is appropriate," the court wrote in its opinion. Armstrong has faced several lawsuits since admitting last year that he used steroids and other performance-enhancers to win the Tour de France every year from 1999-2005. He has settled cases with the London-based Sunday Times and Nebraska-based Acceptance Insurance. Armstrong settled with Acceptance, which paid him $3 million in bonuses similar to SCA, hours before he was scheduled to be questioned under oath. He also is facing a federal whistleblower lawsuit, as the government wants to recover more than $30 million the U.S. Postal Service paid to Armstrongs teams. Potential penalties in that case could be as high as $100 million. LOS ANGELES -- With four games left before the playoffs, including one against second-place Oklahoma City, the Los Angeles Clippers are focused on fine-tuning themselves. Sure, they will take another victory over the Lakers, but as Blake Griffin said, "It doesnt mean that much to us." Griffin and Chris Paul scored 23 points apiece, and the Clippers hung their third consecutive rout on the Lakers, 120-97 Sunday to take three of four games this season from their beleaguered Staples Center co-tenants. "Our whole message is to worry about ourselves," Griffin said. "We know who we are. We just want to sharpen the things we do." It wasnt quite the blowout of the Clippers previous two wins -- 48 points on March 6 and 36 points on Jan. 10 -- but they were easily in command as the designated home team. "They were bigger, talented, and they played better," Lakers coach Mike DAntoni said. J.J. Redick added 15 points in his second game back from injury and DeAndre Jordan had 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Pacific Division-winning Clippers, who improved to 32-6 at home while shooting 57 per cent. "Its a game that we expected to win," guard Jared Dudley said. "We got up, went out there and did a good job." The injury-plagued Lakers were down to just eight players after guard Kent Bazemore got hurt in the second quarter. Jordan Hill led them with 22 points and Nick Young added 18 points off the bench, where there were plenty of empty seats. Jodie Meeks had 17 points. "Its one of those years," forward Wesley Johnson said. "Its tough to fight through it." The Lakers lone win in the series, a 116-103 victory on opening night, came well before they lost Kobe Bryant and their season rapidly went downhill as the Clippers surged under new coach Doc Rivers. The Lakers lost their fourth in a row overall, seventh straight on the road, and 10th in 13 games for their 52nd defeat of the season. Having built a 22-point lead, the Clippers starters rested in the fourth, having already had two days off since their previous game. "Its nice to win when guys have relatively low minutes," Rivers said. Hedo Turkoglu roused his teammates with a driving dunk in the final three minutes. "That might be the top team moment this year," Griffin said. "Ive never seen him move that fast or jump that high." The Clippers reeled off eight straight points to open the third, including four by Griffin, for a 65-49 lead. Jordan dunked back-to-back, Paul made two 3-pointers, and Griffin hit 3 of 4 free throws, extending the lead to 84-65. It grew bigger with a 10-3 spurt that sent the Clippers into the fourth leading 94-72. The Clippers shot 62 per cent and outscored the Lakers 37-23 in the third. Young scored the first five points of the second quarter, giving the Lakers a two-point lead, their first of the game. They kept it close over the next 4 1/2 minutes before the Clippers used a 19-12 run to lead 57-49 at halftime. Griffin had eight points and Paul six in the teams first extended offensive burst of the game. Notes: The Lakers said Bazemore sprained his right foot and will undergo an MRI on Monday. ... And like the near entirety of last season, Jonathan Bernier and Torontos goaltending tandem is up to the task.(SportsNetwork.com) - Perception is a big problem for the NFL. Or to be more accurate, the fact that important people in the league dont understand the simple concept that perception is often greater than reality for the casual audience they crave is troubling. How else can you explain the NFLs vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino, getting caught stumbling out of Jerry Jones party bus or Mr. Credibility himself, commissioner Roger Goodell, feeling its OK to have dinner with his BFF, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, the day before the AFC Championship Game? Conspiracy theorists only need one innocent slip-up to build their narrative around, which is why public figures in positions that demand trust are always told to avoid the appearance of impropriety at all costs. Incompetence didnt equal conspiracy in North Texas earlier this month when referee Pete Morelli picked up the flag on what should have been a pass interference penalty against the Dallas Cowboys in their wild-card round win against the Detroit Lions, but the 9/11-truthers had the Blandino picture to bolster their spin. The fact that the same guy was instrumental in overturning Dez Bryants awe- inspiring catch a week later in Green Bay due to a bad rule that could have been easily ignored is just a pesky footnote in a short-attention-span- culture. Kraft was breaking bread with the commish before the NFL unleashed a sting operation, likely fueled by the green eye of John Harbaugh, to try to find out if the Patriots were indeed deflating football purposefully to give Tom Brady some kind of perceived edge. Will they be punished? Probably not, Seahawks star cornerback Richard Sherman said when asked about the issue. Not as long as Robert Kraft and Goodell are still taking pictures at their respective homes. I think he was just at Krafts house last week for the AFC Championship. Talk about conflict of interest. You know, as long as that happens, it wont affect them at all. Nothing will. Common sense says if Goodell was so intent of protecting his buddy, he might have tipped him off between courses so the evil Kraft could have alerted his rogue equipment people to stop messing with Tom Terrifics balls (you can insert Family Guy-like joke here). Instead Goodell shut his mouth, polished off his sorbet and caught the Patriots in the act with 11 of 12 deflated footballs, which more than likely meant next to nothing in their 45-7 rout of the Indiaanapolis Colts.dddddddddddd. The perception, though, is dwarfing that common sense. I think the perception is the reality, Sherman said. It is what it is. Their resume speaks for itself. You talk about getting close to the line ... I dont really have a comment about that, but their past is what their past is, their present is what their present is. Its the world we live in. Its the league we play in. Ensuing Bill Belichick and Tom Brady press conferences, which attempted to explain the deflated footballs, have already launched 1,000 different comedy careers and made Science Guy Bill Nye and Mona Lisa Vito from My Cousin Vinny relevant in the world of professional football. Kraft, meanwhile, seems upset that his favorite employee didnt tip him off, even asking for an apology when the Patriots are cleared of any wrongdoing. I believe unconditionally that the New England Patriots have done nothing wrong, Kraft said before adding that if the NFL-backed investigation into the scandal finds nothing wrong, I would hope the NFL would apologize. If the (Ted} Wells investigation is not able to definitively determine that our organization tampered with the air pressure in the footballs, I would expect and hope that the league would apologize to our entire team and in particular Coach Belichick and Tom Brady for what they have had to endure this past week, he said. A prepared statement, of course, prohibited any follow-up questions regarding the FOXSports report that the league has identified a locker-room attendant as a person of interest in Deflategate or as many others like to call him, the sacrifice at the altar of Belichick and Brady. Whatever the outcome or the truth for that matter, though, its never going to be good enough for a portion of the public following this nonsense. And its a systemic problem. By any measure that doesnt rely on EBITDA, Goodell has had a disastrous year as NFL commissioner. But, even if he made no missteps regarding Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson or everything else that has crossed his desk, ultimately hes beholden to the people who employ him -- the owners. And the last time I looked, the puppet is never the one pulling the stings. Im disappointed in the way this entire matter has been handled, a defiant Kraft ominously said. We expect hard facts as opposed to circumstantial leaked evidence to drive the conclusion of this investigation. Translation? Know your role, friend. EDMONTON - The Edmonton Oilers seem to be getting it together under interim coach Todd Nelson. Derek Roy had a goal and two assists as the Oilers came away with a 5-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday.Benoit Pouliot, Jeff Petry, Nail Yakupov and Taylor Hall also scored for the Oilers (10-23-9) who have gone 3-1-2 under Nelson since he took over sole coaching responsibilities when G.M. Craig MacTavish moved back upstairs after joining Nelson for five games in the wake of the firing of Dallas Eakins. The Oilers had lost 20 of their previous 21 games before showing some recent signs of life. Its fun to win, Hall said. It does make you forget about what place you are in the standings for a couple of days. We need that, we need to be a relaxed group. For us, winning helps out a lot with that. Were starting to gel a lot as a team. When we get down, we come together, we dont try to do too much individually, were starting to play like that and its helping out a lot. Its a nice little stretch for us. A win is a win, no matter where it is in the season. And when youre winning against a team like Chicago its even better.Thats how we have to play every game, added Yakupov. That was really a team game tonight. It was really exciting. We started to play the right way.The Oilers twice scored quickly after allowing a goal, something Nelson said was a good sign that there is still some fight in the squad. It was a great sign that we could bounce back right away, he said. Thats good to see, hopefully that continues and we keep on maturing in that direction. Once they scored, our guys stuck with it and got rewarded.Brandon Saad had both goals for the Blackhawks (27-13-2), who have lost two of their past three games. They played a good game, but we had all the chances we needed to win this game tonight, said Blackhawks goalie Antti Raanta. Ive played better games myself. The game winning-goal, the third one, if you let that kind of bad rebound right to a guys stick, you have to recover and make the save. You cant let in that kind of goal. We lost the game almost because of me, so it is a bad feeling. The Blackhawks were coming off a tough trip after playing the Wild in Minnesota on Thursday night, but Saad said they cant use that as an excuse. Its tough, but there are no excuses, he said. It is part of the NHL and the schedule. We cant blame it on that. We got outworked tonight. It was a big game for us and a tough loss. Were not happy with our last two performances. The Blackhawks started the scoring seven-and-a-half minutes into the first period as Oilers goalie Ben Scrivens was able to make an initial stop on Chicago forward Jonathan Toews, but the Edmonton defence let Saad skate in unmarked to deposit the rebound into the net for his 11th goal of the season.Edmonton got that goal back just over a minute later as Pouliot tucked a puck past Raanta during a scramble in front of the Blackhawks net.The Oilers went up 2-1 on the power play with six-and-a-half minutes left to play in the opening frame. Teddy Purcell fed a puck in front of the Chicago net and Roy came racing in to deflect it past Raanta.Chicago tied the game six minutes into the second period as Oilers defender Nikita Nikitin blew a tire, allowing a two-on-one. Marian Hossa elected to shoot on the play and the rebound came directly to Saad, who scored his second goal of the game.Edmonton came flying back to regain the lead only 46 seconds later as Petry joined the rush and slipped the rebound from a Yakupov shot through Raantas legs to make it 3-2.Scrivens kept his team in the lead with five minutes left in the second period as he made a huge stop on Andrew Shaw on the doorstep. The Oilers were able to clamp down on defence and limit the Blackhawks chances in the third until Yakupov was able to put the game away, coming in with Hall on a two-on-none opportunity and electing to shoot himself, beating Raanta on the backhand with three minutes remaining. It was Yakupovs first goal in 15 games.Hall added an empty-netter shortly afterwards.Scrivens recorded 19 saves in the win. Both teams return to the ice on Sunday as the Blackhawks return to Chicago to face the Wild and the Oilers finish off a four-game homestand against the Florida Panthers.Notes: It was the second of three games between the Oilers and Hawks this season. Chicago dominated the first contest with a 7-1 win in Edmonton in November. The Blackhawks entered the game having won five in a row over Edmonton, dating to the 2012-13 season… Chicago backup goalie Antti Raanta got the nod in net after watching Corey Crawford make the previous seven starts for the team… There were some obvious statistical differences between the two teams entering the game, the most glaring being goal differential. The Blackhawks were +35 in goal differential (123-88), while Edmonton was -47 (89-136)… Remaining out with injuries for Chicago were Trevor Van Riemsdyk (patella fracture) and Kris Versteeg (upper body), while Edmonton was without the services of Tyler Pitlick (lacerated spleen)… Derek Roy became just the fifth Oiler to have a three-point game this season. Chicagos Patrick Kane has had six three-point games this year. Mitch Williams Jersey . Cain departed in the fourth inning of a 10-5 loss to the Pirates on Thursday.
